As we head deeper into the first winter of the pandemic with no lockdown, the number of people with colds and other viruses has risen sharply. Children are mixing at schools and nurseries and adults in the workplace and socially. Colds, flu, stomach viruses and COVID are all spreading.

It can be a worrying time for the parents of young children, particularly the first-time parents who have not really had to deal with this before.

We have put together some resources to help you whenever your child is unwell. It will give guidance on when it is necessary to seek medical help and give you the confidence to manage most minor conditions yourselves.

Cases of COVID in Hailsham are high at the moment. Symptoms of COVID, flu, viral gastroenteritis (stomach bugs) and sore throats are all very similar - so we recommend getting a PCR test as soon as possible if you or your child has symptoms. Remember lateral flow tests are only for screening people who don't have symptoms for example in schools or in the workplace.

Please bear in mind that we need to keep our vulnerable patients safe when they attend the surgery and we need to keep our staff infection free so that they can continue to work. Please bear with us when our patient service team or clinicians recommend a PCR test or when they suggest that an alternative to a face-to-face appointment may well be the safest way forward for everyone.

Visiting Your GP Surgery

We respectfully ask that you follow this guidance and thank you for your cooperation:

  1. Continue to wash your hands, use alcohol hand sanitizer, wear a face covering in our surgery buildings and keep your distance from other people.
  2. Please only attend the surgery after discussion with staff.
  3. Please only attend if there is no possibility that you have COVID-19 infection
  4. If you have any symptoms of COVID-19 (cough, fever, loss of sense of smell or taste, headache, sore throat, muscle aches, cold symptoms, diarrhoea etc), you must do a proper PCR test and await the result before going out into the community. Lateral flow tests (instant tests) are only for screening for people with no symptoms.
